Our beautiful and loving mother, and grandmother, Gertrude (Trudy) W. Lehnert (nee Angrick) went to heaven on July 15th, 2023, after her battle with dementia and cancer. She was born a surprise twin on June 13th, 1937, in Dusseldorf, Germany. She immigrated to German Village in Columbus Ohio in 1950, with her twin sister and parents. She went to St. Mary's High School and after graduation, she worked on Top Secret projects at Batelle while attending The Ohio State University where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in food microbiology. Soon after, she married her polka dancing soulmate Andy. She was a loving wife and caring mother, who finally felt that at 86 years old, she could leave her three adult children to fend for themselves. Not only was she a talented knitter, avid reader, strategic stock trader, and secret poet, she was a quick witted, lifelong learner who loved to travel, and encouraged her children to do the same. She was always willing to play a game of mille and chess and showed her opponents no mercy. An artist herself, she loved to collect original art and antiques, especially unique items and made many stops at "Martha's" to find her favorite piece. She loved all creatures great and small and volunteered with the Friends of the Library, Women's Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, her children's school, and hosted Brazilian exchange student, Angela, through the Rotary Club.
Trudy is preceded in death by her loving husband, Andrew Lehnert, her parents August and Martha Angrick, and brother, Manfred. She leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her humorous and interesting children Heidi Elizabeth Lehnert-Cressman (Mark), Paul Nicholas Lehnert (Gail) and Michelle (Mimi) Andrea McFadden, D.V.M (Jason). She also leaves her loving twin sister, Elisabeth Angrick, whose willingness to provide compassionate care in her own home kept Trudy out of a nursing home. She will also be missed by second cousins, Jeanette Harrington (Roger) and Richard "Ricky" Rahmel (Diana). Finally, her most joyful and proudest moments were the result of her eight grandchildren: Dana Cressman, Sophie Cressman, D.V.M. (Huw Evans, D.V.M.), Sylvia Cressman, Nicholas McFadden, Maxwell McFadden, Anthony McFadden, Kate Madison, and Natalie Brown. They shared her passions, and she was grateful that her memory would live on in them.
She will be profoundly missed but we are comforted knowing that she is polka dancing with dad again.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Guardian Angels Church, 1686 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd. Copley on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of Trudy's life in the church pavilion and private interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron.
In lieu of flowers, please do a good deed in her name or donate to your favorite charity.
