G. Robert ''Bob'' Sumner 81 passed away February 3 2004 in Akron. He was born in Akron in 1922 to George Anthony and Ruth Morgan Sumner and attended Old Trail School and graduated from Buchtel High School in 1940. He was an Eagle Scout and served in the Army during WWII. After the war he married Betsy Blacketter and entered Ohio State University graduating with a Dairy Technology Degree in 1952. He followed his grandfather Jason and his father George into the dairy business and worked for Borden?s Ice Cream in Pittsburgh and returned to Akron in 1960 as a plant manager for Reiter & Harter Dairy and retired in 1978 from Reiter Dairy. He loved to play golf and was a member of the Reiter Retiree?s Assoc. Ohio State Alumni Assoc. Copley Lions and Copley Methodist Church. His wife Betsy passed away in 1995 and he is survived by his daughters Pam (David) Peters of Sharon Center and Patty (William) Haney of Copley; granddaughters Elizabeth and Theresa Haney; sisters Maxine Fisher of Copley and Marilyn Babcox of Chagrin Falls; sister-in-law Antonia (Eric) Nicholls of CA; brother-in-law Ralph Van Horn of Mogadore; nieces nephews and his ?puppy? Duke. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Monday February 9 at Copley United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 4-7 PM on Sunday at the Hummel Funeral Home 3475 Copley Rd. Copley and also on Monday at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Copley Lions PO Box 4023 Copley OH 44321 or the Copley United Methodist Church.
