George Steurer

George 'Bill' Steurer, age 89, passed away on October 26, 2015 at the Village at St. Edward. He was born on April 11, 1926 in Akron to the late George and Elizabeth Steurer. Bill proudly served our country in the US Navy during World War II. He was the custodian at St. Mary's Catholic Church for over 30 years. Bill was a volunteer at Mobile Meals and Akron General for many years. He enjoyed fishing with his sons and playing cards. Preceded in death by his grandsons, Patrick Steurer and Brian Klein; brother, Ed and sister, Margie; he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia (Smith); children, Ellen (Tom) Klein, Dan (Denise), Ken, Kevin (Pam), Mary Hernandez and Mark; grandchildren, Matt (Brenda) Klein, Rhonda (Bruce) Hunsicker, Julie (Jason) Sinkovitz, Scott Steurer, Ashley Steurer, Zach Steurer, Adam Steurer, Kelly Steurer, Aaron Hernandez and Manny Hernandez; step grandchildren, Mallory Hirsch and Ben (Christina) Lorman; 7 great grandchildren; siblings, Jack, Tom and Larry Steurer, MaryLou Krieg, Peg Cornell, Liz McGonigal and Kate Fischer; sister-in-law, Rosemarie Steurer and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staffs of The Village at St. Edward and Hospice of Summa for all of their loving care. Calling hours will be Friday, October 30, 4-8 p.m. at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton Ave. Akron, Ohio. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
