George Pristic, age 91, died peacefully in his sleep January 22, 2017. Born in Akron, OH, George was raised in Czechoslovakia. George worked hard throughout his teenage years to afford moving back to America; which he did at the age of 22, just after World War II. Back in Akron, he worked tirelessly to make his way. George found a job and enrolled part time at the University of Akron. His education was put on hold when he was drafted to serve in the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany and proudly served the US Army by using his knowledge of five languages as an interpreter. After his tour of duty, George returned to Akron and graduated with his business degree from the University of Akron. Hired by Goodyear Tire and Rubber, his successful career there spanned 37 years. George was a skilled and avid tennis player. He also enjoyed bridge, golf and rooting for the Cleveland Indians, Cavs and Browns. His faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was an active member of Fairlawn Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir and volunteered much of his time. Preceded in death by wife Patricia, George is survived by his sons, David (Susan) and Peter; grandsons, Max and Griffin; niece Karen Hermann; nephews Wesley and Gary Nagy, Wil Hempker, and family in Slovakia including niece Katka and her son Karol Kliestenec. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 13, at Fairlawn Lutheran Church, 3415 W. Market St. Fairlawn, Ohio 44333.
