George Karakis

George Stephan Karakis, 72, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday April 21, 2015. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 30, 1942. George graduated from Penn State University. He retired from B&W with 30 years service. George was a veteran of the Air Force and a member of St. Thomas Eastern Orthodox Church. George is survived by wife Carol; children Pete (Charlotte), Chris (Angie), Nick (Kim) and Amanda; grandchildren Emily, Stefan, Dimitri, Jackson, Madison, Micah, Carson, Cassidy and Macy; brother Jim Karakis; sister Irene Sergakis. He was preceded in death by brother John. The family will receive friends Friday 6-8 pm at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd., Copley., where a Panikhida service will be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday 10:00 am at St. Thomas Eastern Orthodox Church, 555 S. Cleveland-Massillon Rd., where the family will receive friends 9:00 am until the time of service, Fr. Vladimir Bakurdzhiev officiating. Interment Copley Cemetery. in lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Thomas Eastern Orthodox Church or Wounded Warrior Project.
