George Washington (Pappy) Green, 92, of Akron, OH, passed away on 5 Feb 2018. George was born in Lake Village, Arkansas to Joe and Laura Green on 22 Jan 1926. He quit school in the 8th grade and began picking cotton to financially help his grandmother and mother, whom he affectionately called 'Sista'. He often boasted about picking enough cotton to give to his mother when she was unable to approach the daily quota while still having over 100 lbs for himself. George held numerous jobs in Arkansas before being taught by a 'German man' how to finish concrete. He brought his skills to Akron and became one of the best Cement Finishers in the OH area. He was instrumental in the expansion of the highway and surrounding area of Route 8 in Cuyahoga Falls OH. George was a member of Akron's Finest Vannited, a social van club that toured to patronize other van clubs throughout OH. This is when his handle 'Hog Jaw' came to life. George loved to party and dance. He won numerous swing dance competitions while growing up as a young man. He also loved listening to music, especially the blues. During the summer months, George could be found at the softball field, watching the game, listening to the blues and selling moonshine. George will be remembered for his affectionate laugh, love of family, living his life to the fullest and being known as 'The Moonshine Man'. George is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; children Gennie Lowe (David Ruffin Jr.), Akron; Dennis Lowe, Akron; William Lowe, Dayton; grandchildren, Edward Avent II (Ashley Tuipulotu) and Parquer Avent; great-grandchild, Edward 'MoMo' Avent III. Brothers in-law, Gerald Moore and Nathan Moore. Sisters in-law, Viola Moore and Barbara Lyons. A host of nieces and nephews and special friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Laura and step father William 'Peck' Brown. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Manor Care Nursing Home and Summa Hospice Care.
