George H. Friess born on May 6 1919 to George H. and Gertrude V. Schwalbach Friess in Akron. He attended University of Akron and served as a Lieutenant in the 8th Air Force during WWII becoming a Flight Engineer on a B-29. He was employed by the Hardware and Supply Company as an Abrasive Engineer for 26 years. In 1963 he formed his own company Friess Equipment Inc. in Akron from which he retired. He spent part of the year on Marco Island FL and the remainder in Akron. He was a member of the Marco Men's Club and the Marco Island Rod and Gun Club and San Marco Church. His family were charter members of St. Sebastian Church. He later became very active in the St. Vincent Booster Club and sports activities as well as coaching Little League. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus the Air Force Association the Holy Name Society of St. Vincent and the No-name Club. He was preceded in death by sons George Thomas and Gregory J. Friess. He is survived by daughters M. Diane Augsbury of Akron Stephanie M. Weaks of Cincinnati Denise A. Hickerson of Nashville; sons Frederic J. of Akron Gary E. (Mary H.) Mark A. (Michelle) James C. (Molly) all of Akron and daughter-in-law Mary K. Friess of Reston VA.; 24 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brother John S. Friess (Wanda) of Northfield sister Joan P. Wetzel of Cuyahoga Falls Gloria Gifford of Johnson City TN and Carole McDonough of Cuyahoga Falls. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday January 17 2004 9:30 A.M. at St. Vincent Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St. TODAY from 4-7.
