Genevieve Yates 83 of Akron peacefully passed away on September 30 2013 with family at her side. Genevieve is survived by her husband of 63 years Bill daughters Linda (John) Wack Joyce (Joseph) Tomei and son Scott Yates. Mamaw also leaves behind her much loved grandchildren Paul Wack Bethany (John) Huber Kristen (Paul) Kukla Michael (Michelle) Tomei Julie Yates Whitney Yates Cheyenne Yates and great-granddaughter Nina Lee Yates. Genevieve is also survived by two sisters Zelma Jividen of Nitro WV Rethal Bartley of Bayonet Point FL and sister-in-law Patty Mullins of Wadsworth OH. Born on November 27 1929 in Robertsburg WV Mom was the third youngest of ten children born to C. Arley and Margie Cobb. Genevieve met William Yates in 1949 they married on July 1 1950 and started their family. They moved to Akron in July of 1969. Genevieve was a very active member of Christ United Methodist Church since 1970. She worked as a seamstress for many years but the greatest joy in her life was being a wife a mother and a grandmother. Her straightforward no-nonsense approach to life and all of its trials and troubles served her and the family well through the years. Mom loved to cook and tried out new foods recipes and ingredients throughout her life. She was an avid reader with an incredible memory never seeming to forget anything she had read. She was able to 'rattle off' all 55 counties of West Virginia in alphabetical order right through the last years of her life. Mom was well loved by all who knew her and in return all who knew her had their lives enriched by having known her. In addition to the family members listed Mom leaves behind many nieces nephews and other family and friends throughout West Virginia Ohio and many other states. She will be missed by all. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held on Saturday October 19 2013 at 1 PM at Christ United Methodist Church 380 Mineola Ave. Akron 44320. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
