Frederick J. Keller DVM died on April 25 2012 at The Hospice on Ridgewood. A native of Akron Fred did his undergraduate work and received his degree in Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University. While at OSU he was named All-American in both soccer and lacrosse. He was inducted into The Ohio State Hall of Fame in 2008. Fred practiced veterinary medicine for over 40 years and was well respected by his patients and peers. He was also an active volunteer for the Humane Society of Greater Akron for many years. Fred was an accomplished athlete outdoorsman carpenter and all around handyman. He could pitch a tent catch fish for his dinner and make canvas covers for his boat. He was hard on himself and others to do their best in any game especially golf or paddle tennis. Fred always had a story or joke to add to any festivity and could be urged to tell ''that one over again.'' He was a beloved friend and mentor to many. Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Mary Gillen Keller. Fred leaves behind his children Patrick Mark and Christine as well as his sister Jean granddaughter Brianne and many friends. A Memorial Mass will take place on Saturday May 5 2012 9:30 AM at St. Hilary Catholic Church 2750 West Market St. Fairlawn OH 44333.
