Our beloved father, husband and friend passed away peacefully March 19, 2016. Fred was born on May 1, 1930 to the late Ford and Helen (George) Nahas in Akron, where he lived most of his life. He attended Akron South High School and graduated from the University of Akron with degrees in business administration and accounting. During the Korean Conflict, Fred served a tour of duty in the United States Army. Later in his civilian life, Fred was employed for more than thirty years at Babcock & Wilcox in the engineering and accounting departments. After his retirement from B & W, Fred continued his work as a C.P.A., the job he loved so much, in his own private accounting practice until he was well into his eighties. Most of all Fred was a dedicated family man who never turned away a family member or a friend who was in need. He could repair anything around the house that needed fixing and helped others as well as his own family. The Akron Elks Lodge, which Fred was a member, enjoyed using his many talents and knowledge to better their organization during the 1970's. Preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Elaine, brother, Russell and cousin and pal, Louis Moffett; Fred leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 58 years, Ruth; sons, Paul and Greg; daughter, Cathy (Mike McCaffrey) along with a host of relatives and friends and his special canine friend Pixie. Calling hours will be 4-8 pm Wednesday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, Ohio. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Thursday at the funeral home, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the GoodDays Chronic Disease Fund, 6900 Dallas Parkway Suite 200 Plano, Texas 75024. Please visit www.hummelcares.com to share memories or condolences.
