F. John Naples 99 of Akron passed away peacefully on Sunday November 6 2011. Born in Quadrelle Italy he grew up in Youngstown and was a resident of Akron since 1943. John earned his PhD in organic chemistry from Indiana University in 1936. He retired as a research polymer chemist from Goodyear in 1977 after 36 years of service. After retirement he worked as a part-time professor at Akron University for 12 years. He was a member of St. Sebastian Church where he was an usher and previously was an Asst. Scout Master. John was a member of the American Chemical Society and Phi Lambda Upsilon National Honorary Chemistry Fraternity. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Mary Naples; and two sisters Carmel Curtin and Magdaline Acklin. John is survived by his wife Ida Naples; children David (Cindy) Naples Andrea Naples and her husband Michael Norvelle Miriam Naples and her husband Tom Carpenter; grandchildren Rose Goldthwait Andrew and Zane Carpenter and Lee Christine and John William Trout; brothers Ralph and Carmen; sisters Toni Hudson and Josephine (Frank) Forde; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday November 9 2011 9:30 a.m. at St. Sebastian Catholic Church 476 Mull Ave Akron OH 44302. Entombment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
