Evelyn Lamm Gannon, 95, passed away on March 31, 2016, at Summa Palliative Care. Evelyn was born on August 20, 1920 in Lowes, Kentucky, the fifth of seven children of George and Doris Lamm. She received her RN in 1942 from St. Marys School of Nursing in East St. Louis, Illinois. Soon after graduation, her sense of adventure and loyalty to her country led her to enlist in the Women's Air Corps. She served as a flight nurse during World War II, transporting and caring for injured troops as they returned from England to Miami, Florida. During her time in England she met her husband, Thomas Gannon, a pilot in the Army Air Corps, whom she married there in 1944. Upon completion of their service, Tom and Evelyn came to Akron, where they made their home for 52 years until his death in 1996. Over the years, Evelyn worked as a nurse at City Hospital and in the infirmary at the University of Akron. She also, along with her husband, delivered Mobile Meals every week and provided baked goods for funeral luncheons at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. She was an active member of the Women's Overseas League. But her first love was her large, boisterous family. She could be found playing poker weekly with all the Gannons, spending winters in Florida with her sister and brother-in-law Ethel and Bob and serving up coffee and donuts and Bisquick coffee cake to all her children and grandchildren on Sunday morning. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Tom and her six siblings. She is survived by her four children, Tom Jr. (Mary), Ann (Jim Ling), Janet (Tom Smith) and John ' The Prince' (Becky), nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1905 Portage Trail Cuyahoga Falls, with visitation one hour prior to the Mass. Inurnment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Evelyn has requested that memorial donations be made to Sagrada Familia Catholic Church, 7719 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102.
