Evelyn Dannemiller

VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE Evelyn A. Dannemiller 72 of Fairlawn died September 24 2004. Evelyn was born in Akron graduated from St. Vincent's High School and was a longtime member of St. Sebastian's Parish. For more than forty years Evelyn was dedicated to the welfare of handicapped and ''special'' children and adults. She served as a Board member of several voluntary organizations including the Blick Clinic the Elms Association for the Mentally Handicapped and as a Charter Board member of The Ardmore Inc. Evelyn served various roles within the Summit County Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) receiving the ARC Recognition Award in 1969. Evelyn began her involvement in community service as a Charter member of the Christ Child Society of Akron serving as President and as Vice-President of the National Christ Child Society Board. She helped form a nursery for retarded children that later became part of the Summit County Board of Mental Retardation Program. Her community service also included involvement with the CYO the St. Sebastian Sanctuary Society Catholic Charities the National Council of Catholic Women and the St. Vincent-St. Mary's Parents Club. Evelyn was a 1984 recipient of the Akron Area HerStory Woman of the Year Award. Preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Mary Manion Evelyn is survived by her husband of 47 years Tom their six children Larry (Kathy) Rosemarie (Steve) Smoral Tom Jr. Jere Katie and Linda and brothers Joseph (Marie) E. Manion and Robert V. (Laureen) Manion three grandchildren(Patrick Matthew and Lauren)and numerous nieces nephews and cousins. The family expresses their special thanks to Dr. Esther Rehmus the Akron General Medical Center staff the Hospice of Visiting Nurse and her loving friends. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday September 30 2004 at 12:00 at St. Sebastian Church. Interment in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8 pm at the Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St. In lieu of flowers the family suggests any desired memorials be made to the Christ Child Society The Arc of Summit and Portage Counties Hospice of Visiting Nurse or St. Sebastian Church.
