Eugene Iacomini

December 14, 1936 — March 8, 2004

Eugene Joseph Iacomini of Bath passed away suddenly March 8 2004. Gene attended St. Sebastian grade school winning the CYO Scholarship Award. He graduated from St. Vincent's High School in 1955 where he was an accomplished athlete in football baseball basketball and golf. He was named All-City Honors. He attended Kent State University before receiving his degree from Michigan State University in Hospitality-Restaurant Management. While attending college at MSU he married Lois Darkow. Gene began his restaurant career at the age of 14 at Iacomini's Restaurant with his father Joe Uncle's Leo and Eddie and grandfather August. Then it was on to Iacomini's Garden Grille and two Holiday Inns. Finally in 1968 Gene and Joe purchased Poor Richard's Pub and converted into Li'l Joe's Pub in Bath where it remained successful for 32 years. In 2000 Gene sold his profitable landmark business. During retirement he enjoyed family sports of all kinds (especially golf) and time with his grandchildren. He was Preceded in death by his wife Lois and parents Joseph and Rose Iacomini. Gene is survived by his daughter Christine (David) Frantz; sister Judy (David) Amato; and grandchildren Matthew and Jennifer Frantz. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday March 13 2004 at 9:30AM at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Akron. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hummel Funeral Home 3475 Copley Rd. in Copley on Friday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CYO 812 Biruta St. Akron OH 44307.
