Eugene 'Curt' Giffin, age 93, passed away on October 7, 2018. He was born on April 6, 1925 in Shadyside, Ohio, one of thirteen children to the late William and Linnie Giffin. Curt was a 1943 graduate of Bellaire High School, he then joined the Navy V12 and was sent to Miami University of Ohio for officer's training. After World War II ended he became a medic and was stationed in the Philippines until 1946. Curt finished his bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering from Ohio University. He worked for numerous architectural firms in Akron and Cleveland, spending most of his career at Goodyear Tire and Rubber's Real Estate and Architectural Department. Curt was certified to practice architecture in twelve states and traveled extensively. Curt loved his family, history, reading, music, genealogy, wood working, landscaping, fishing, Cleveland Browns and Indians and his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a longterm member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron where he had many longtime friends. Preceded in death by his eldest son, James Mathew Giffin and his twelve siblings; he is survived by his cherished wife of 41 years, Joyce (Waltman); children, Robert (Denise) and Pamela Johnson; stepchildren, Douglas (Rhonda) Berry and Pamela Berry; daughter-in-law, Mary Maguire; grandchildren, Emily (Nathan) Toebbe, Sarah Giffin, Patrick Giffin, Julie Giffin, Lindsay Giffin, Stephen (Kathleen) Monroe, Elizabeth Silva; 8 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Akron General Cleveland Clinic and Hospice of Summa for all of their loving care. A memorial service will be 11:30am, Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron 3300 Morewood Rd.
