Essie Ellen (Erlanger) Tarbis, age 83, passed away on August 22, 2021. She was born in Guntersblum, Germany to Lothar Erlanger and Minna Erlanger.
Essie married Myron Tarbis and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter, Susan Tarbis; her sisters, Hannelore Jewell and Margo Waddell; and brother, Fred Erlanger.
Essie is survived by her children, Lisa Forsythe and Lori Marttila; grandchildren, Amanda and Michael Forsythe, and Ashley and Taylor Marttila. Also her brother, Ed Erlanger.
Essie was a graduate of The Ohio State University and remained an avid Buckeye fan. She was an active member of her community and spent a lot of time volunteering. Some of her volunteer work included being a cookie chairman for all three of her daughters' scout troops, being treasurer for the Copley High School PTSA, and she was very involved with Copley Music Boosters. She also served on several committees at the Unitarian Universalist Church once her daughters were out of school. Later in life, she enjoyed crafting and spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter Amanda Forsythe.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 26, 2021, starting at 2:00 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron, 3300 Morewood Rd., Fairlawn, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM at the church.
