Emma Jeanne Dorka (Kuhn), age 94, passed away on October 22, 2023 quietly and gently with her son and daughter-in-law at her side. This followed a months-long battle to overcome injuries from a fall at home.
She was born on a family farm in Wayne County, Ohio on December 14, 1928 and was delivered by her loving grandfather who died not long following her birth. She was the only daughter of Earl and Wilda (Billie) Kuhn and the sister of one brother, Earl Jr.
When she was 2 years old, her family moved to Kenmore, Ohio, where she was raised. She attended Kenmore High School and graduated in 1946. She met the love of her life, Charles A. (Chuck) Dorka, a Marine Veteran who served in the South Pacific during World War II, while working at Ornamental Iron in Akron, Ohio. They were married February 4, 1950.
Together they raised 3 children in a modest home in the Firestone Park area of Akron. Her primary focus throughout her years was to be a loving wife and mother in a family that shared many blessings and sometimes grave difficulties. She and Chuck provided a needed foundation throughout all the highs and lows. She worked various jobs over the years to help support the family, with a fierce determination to make sure each of her children graduated from college, something she was never able to accomplish herself. All 3 children graduated from college.
Married to a reserved and quiet husband, Jeanne was the outgoing voice of the family. She was a very social person and loved volunteering at church and with many humanitarian organizations. She delighted especially in serving on various Executive Committees as she was particularly good at telling people what to do. Jeanne loved playing cards and during her "mobile" years played Bridge multiple times a week with various groups.
Jeanne lost her loving husband Chuck on October 22, 2003 twenty years to the day prior to her passing. She was preceded in death by her father (Earl) and mother (Billie), her husband (Charles), her oldest son (Charles Jr.), and her daughter (Julie). She is survived by her son John (Pat) Dorka, her granddaughter Kelli (Ben) Eberly, grandson Chris (Lindsay) Dorka, grandson Joshua (Nicole) Stroup, step-grandson Ron (Becky) Bentzel, step-granddaughter Dayna (Joshua) Edwards and 11 great grandchildren.
