Elsie Mae Prince went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the age of 96. Born on December 16, 1925 in a log cabin in Crooked Oak, Alabama (near Sheffield), she was married to Quinton Prince in 1943.
Elsie and Quinton met in elementary school. Recently asked when she fell in love with him, she said, "When I was about 12 or 13." They were both 17 years old when they married and they had five children together.
They moved to Akron in 1953 when Dad left farming and got a job at Goodyear Aerospace. After Dad passed away in 1990 Mother remained in their home in Copley and has been caring for our brother Ronnie since he was injured in a motorcycle accident in 2013. After being hospitalized on August 10, she was moved to Hospice Care where she passed away; her family and friends remained at her bedside every day of her journey.
We will forever cherish Mother's affinity for wildlife: resurrecting frozen chipmunks by warming them in the oven (on the warm setting), manipulating their little frozen legs, and being quite pleased when they returned to life. She also had a menagerie of animals that came to her sliding glass doors every day for treats; Squirrels occasionally ate from her hand; but we didn't encourage the possum or the raccoon.
Preceded in death by husband Quinton, her parents Effie and Richard Kimbrough, her twin brothers Lewis and Lloyd, her beloved grandson Mark Hughey, son-in-law Craig Smith, and daughter-in-law Janet Prince.
She is survived by children Janice Smith, Barbara (Danny) Hughey, Carolyn Diane Pope (Mike Mick), Ronald Q. Prince, and Donald (Lori) Prince; grandchildren Kristi (Matt) Bradley, Tamera (Michael) Mays, Jeff (Tara) Hughey, Jennifer (Dave) Huber, Alexis Pope, Krista Prince, and Todd Prince; nine great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind many close friends from her years in Copley and from her church.
The family especially thanks Dianne Stump and extends our gratitude for the years that she has been Mother's guardian angel. Thank you, Dianne, for all that you did for Mother and have continued to do for Ronnie.
A private service will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022 with interment at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Should friends desire, donations may be made in her name to One of a Kind Pet Rescue, 1485 Marion Ave., Akron, OH 44313
