GREEN- Betty Steel, age 77, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2016 surrounded by her family. Betty was born in Dallas, Texas to the late John Robert and Elizabeth Donigan Jones. She grew up in Cuyahoga Falls and graduated from St. Vincent High School and The Ohio State University. Betty obtained her Master's Degree in Education from Walsh University. Betty spent her professional life as a school teacher primarily helping children with special learning needs. She started her teaching career working for the Akron Public Schools and then moved on to Parma, Boston, Heilbronn, Germany and Aberdeen, Maryland before working for the Green Public Schools for 16 years at Greenwood and Kleckner Elementary Schools. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and sister Margaret Jones Bauer. She is survived by her constant companion and loving husband of 51 years, Frank Steel. Betty leaves her three children, Michael (Lisa) of Akron, Brian (Beth) and Kathy Ebert (Steve) of Columbus, as well as her brother, Robert (Lynn) Jones of Colorado Springs, many nieces and nephews and her long time caregiver Debbie Friedl. 'Nanny' shared many special memories with her much loved 7 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive family and friends at Hummel Funeral Home at 500 E. Exchange in Akron on Thursday, September 1st from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 2nd at St. Sebastian Parish, 476 Mull Ave. in Akron at 11:00 am. An internment ceremony will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Ceremony, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Rittman on Monday, Sept. 5 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Julie Billiart School of St. Sebastian Parish, 380 Mineola Ave., Akron, Ohio 44320.
