Elizabeth Riley

Betty Lou Metcalf Riley (B. Elizabeth L. Bowers) died at the age of 73 on June 29, 2016. Born January 9, 1943, in Darby, PA. She was a graduate of Archbishop Prendergast High School, Class of 1960. Betty Lou is preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Lew Bowers, formerly of Collingdale, PA; husband, William F. Riley, Jr. of Akron, OH; and her brother, Robert Bowers of Darby, PA. She is survived by her children, Lew Metcalf, Monica Taggart, David (Teresa) Metcalf and Merideth Metcalf grandsons, Joseph E. Taggart, Jr. and David L. Taggart; sisters, Sally Temple, Nancy Callahan; sisters-in-law, Diane Bowers and Elesa Riley. She is also survived by Hank 'Skip' Metcalf, father of her children. Betty Lou served on the Board of Directors for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) of Summit County 2006/2007. She also gave her time for the NAMIWALKS of Summit County in 2005 and 2006 and was Chairperson of the Walk in 2007. Cremation has taken place and ashes will be distributed per her wishes. A Celebration of Life gathering will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Sheraton Suites in Cuyahoga Falls (Falls Library Room). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to NAMI of Summit County for the Needy Soles Program, 150 Cross Street Akron, Ohio 44311 and the Cooper Cancer Center, Summa Campus, Akron, OH.
