Elizabeth 'Tat' Elekes (nee Shanks), age 97, was called Home to be with the Lord on November 26, 2017, with her granddaughter, Holly and husband Nick by her side. She was born on December 24, 1919 in Mannington, West Virginia to the late Charles and Mona Shanks, where she grew up on a 96 acre farm along with her 7 siblings. On August 23, 1940, she married Joseph Sabo Elekes and they soon moved to the Akron area. After eleven years of marriage they welcomed a baby girl, Beverly then four years later, a beautiful baby boy, Bobby. Through the years she experienced many illnesses and tragedies but losing her son at the age of 10 was truly heartbreaking. Her strength and faith in God pulled her through. All that knew her loved her, she was always good for a laugh and she iit up the room. Tat attended Chapel of Prayer Baptist Church for over 50 years. She loved playing cards with her sisters and friends and spending time with her family. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; son, Bobby; sisters, Alice, Mary and Hattie; and brothers, Bob and Don; she is survived by granddaughter, Holly (Nick) Gressman; grandson, David Elekes; daughter, Beverly Elekes; great grandchildren, Kailyn and Christian Gressman; sisters, Joan 'Jodie' Brookes and June Fagan and many friends, nieces and nephews. The family wouldl like to thank the staff of The Hospice Care Center and Visiting Nurse service for all of their loving care Calling hours will be Thursday 4-7pm and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, Ohio 44304. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Tallmadge Cemetery.
