Eleanor Wack

Sister Eleanor Wack the former Sister Dismas died at the age of 85 on Friday December 7 2012 at Regina Health Center Richfield Ohio. She was born in Dayton OH the sixth of twelve children of Carl and Laura Wack. In 1937 the family moved to Akron. After graduating from St. Vincent High School she entered the Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron now Dominican Sisters of Peace on September 10 1946. She made first profession on June 20 1948. She received her BSE from St. John College Cleveland and MSE from the University of Akron. Sister Eleanor spent most of her career in education by teaching primary grades most of those years as a first grade teacher. She taught at Our Lady of the Elms St. Vincent in Akron; and St. Augustine Barberton. She taught and was principal at Immaculate Conception Ravenna; SS. Peter & Paul Doylestown; and St. Agnes Orrville. In 2002 she retired from teaching and began a new ministry by visiting the sick convalescent and homebound of St. Matthew Parish. She retired to the Elms in 2007. Because of health issues she was moved to Regina Health Center in April 2012. Sister Eleanor's interests were photography social justice activity and volunteering at the Center of Hope in Ravenna. She is survived by brothers David of Salem SC sisters Carol Bailey of Severa Park MD; Gretchen Griffin of Salem SC; and Laura Roche of Tarpin Springs FL and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place at Our Lady of the Elms Convent 1230 W. Market St. Akron on Sunday December 9 2012 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Our Lady of the Elms Chapel 1230 W. Market St. Akron 44313 on Monday December 10 2012 at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Sister Eleanor can be made to Dominican Sisters of Peace 2320 Airport Drive Columbus OH 43219-2098.
