Edward Koosed

Dr. Edward L. Koosed, age 95, died August 12, 2017. Born May 12, 1922 in Lakewood, Ohio, he graduated from Lakewood High school in 1940. He attended Depauw University and graduated from Case Western Reserve University Dental School in 1946. Ed lived in the Akron area since 1947 and practiced dentistry in Barberton, Ohio for 44 years. He and his brother, Bernard, also a dentist, established a free dental clinic for Barberton school children, which operated for more than 40 years. He spent many years as a volunteer dentist in the Akron and Barberton schools and served as a volunteer dentist on American Indian reservations throughout the country. He also served on numerous community boards. His commitment to racial integration was reflected in his work and community involvement. He was a lover of jazz and classical music and enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. Ed was an avid tennis player until he was 83. His son Jonathan died June 1st of this year. The extended family was together for Jon's memorial in late July. The family is grateful that Ed, although battling pneumonia, could be fully present and surrounded by loving family at that time. Ed was also preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Gladys Koosed; his brothers Lloyd and Bernard Koosed and sister Eleanor Frank. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Barbara; his children Joel, Diane (Scott), Marla (Billy); stepchildren Todd Hunter and Judi (Wally) Snyder; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation has taken place.
