Edward Abdulla

Edward Abdulla, 88 of Akron, died on January 27, 2014 in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Ed was President of his own insurance company, E.J. Abdulla & Associates for over 50 years. Prior to his insurance business, he was owner and operator of Consolidated Radio and TV. He served in Akron City Council as a Councilman at Large for ten years, and served as Vice President the last four years. Later he served as Clerk of County Council. He was always helping people. He was very active in the Akron Boards of Trade, serving as Pres. of the North Akron Board of Trade, Vice Pres. of the West Akron Board and President of the Kenmore Board of Trade. He also was the President of the Akron Boards of Trade Council which is comprised of all six boards of the City of Akron . Ed volunteered for many organizations; American Red Cross, the Discovery Shop sponsored by the American Cancer Society, also the Akron Police Museum and Mobile Meals. While in City Council, the local bus company went out of business, Ed was instrumental in forming a new bus company and was made Vice Chairman of the Metro Transit Authority, he was quite vocal for people who relied on public transportation to get to and from their destination. Truly Ed was a community leader and honorably served his country in WWII, as a radio operator and gunner flying 25 missions over enemy territory. He leaves his loving Wife, Judy and daughters Jan Grell of Akron, and Joy Brown (Michael) of Kentucky; also grandchildren Christopher (Aparna) Brown, Geoffrey (Katie) Grell and Stacie Stryhal; great�grandchildren Isaac, Ada, Tara, Nora, Ethan and Zoe and step grandchildren Courtney, Morgan and Sydney Pratt. As he became older his faith became stronger. He always said if it weren't for his faith and sense of humor and love for his family and friends he would never had made it to his ripe old age. He truly will be missed not only by his family, b Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 10 AM at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Rd. Akron, 44319. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7pm at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, 44304. Interment in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Francis de Sales Church.
