Dorothy Jean Persing Dorothy Persing, age 90, of Akron, died Friday evening, November 18, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was born in Howe, Indiana on November 1, 1926, the daughter of William and Eleanor (Parham) Barnebee. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1944 and then attended business school to become a secretary. She worked at the Kirsch Company in Sturgis, MI until she married John Charles Persing on August 25, 1951. They moved to Akron where she worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for several years prior to starting a family. She was a member of Saint Sebastian Catholic Church and was involved in its Little Flower Garden Club, and for one year, she served as its president. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, cooking and baking, sewing, and antiquing. Over the years, she lived in Georgia, Texas, Illinois, and Tennessee, as well as overseas in Australia. Dorothy is survived by her three children: Patricia Persing of Akron; Brian Persing and his wife, Cynthia, of Lantana, TX; and Melinda Zylstra and her husband, Pete, of Fairview Park, OH; brother-in-law Lyle Outman of Leonidas, MI; sister-in-law Ardis Barnebee of Mendon, MI; sister-in-law Olga Woolsey of Tinton Falls, NJ; and by six nieces. The family will receive family and friends at Hummel Funeral Home 3475 Copley Rd. COPLEY on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 1 - 4 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at St. Sebastian Parish, 476 Mull Ave. 9:30 am. A private interment will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to National Parkinson Foundation.
