Dorothy Marie McNeill, (nee Boxler), daughter of the late William and Mary Boxler, died on February 24, 2025 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Edwin, William, Leona, Paul, Rose, Mildred, Howard, Robert, and Meryl,; her husband, Thomas J. McNeill; and her grandson, Danny Neuwirth.
All who knew her will remember the aroma of homemade apple pie or cookies when you entered the McNeill home on St. Leger Avenue in Akron. She spent some evenings working at the Linda Theater and so enjoyed meeting the customers and viewing many movies. She loved reading books, sewing, and of course baking and cooking. She cherished her Catholic faith and was a lifelong member of Annunciation Parish in Akron Ohio where she taught preschool, Sunday school and sang in the choir.
Her proudest earthly calling was that of motherhood. She leaves her six children, Theresa Francis (Dr. William), Kevin (Lisa), Maggie Pace (Tom), James, Stephen (Melinda), and Patty McNeill. She is also the proud grandmother of 12: Kathryn Haneline (Kyle), Dr. Christine Ciullo (Zachary), Laura Schneider (Dr. Daniel), Dr. Anne Francis (fiancé Christopher Munden), Shannon McNeill, Stephanie Furman (Nick), Michelle McNeill, Robert, Daniel (deceased) (Justine), Michael (Vanessa) and Emily Neuwirth, and Joey (Patricia) McNeill, as well as 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her childhood friend, Ruth Derck Spencer.
The family wishes to extend special appreciation to her nephew, Tommy Lischak for his love and kindness for so many years.
The McNeill family would also like to thank the staff at the Village of St. Edward in Green for their many years of love and care and also the Hospice of Northeast Ohio, especially Teresa, for the excellent care our mother received in her final days.
