Devoted husband and loving father David Francis lived for his faith and his family and now, after 58 years, that included a two-year battle with colon cancer, he has left his family here on earth to join his family in heaven. David was selfless, hard-working, humble, empathetic, and wise. He had a wonderful sense of humor (puns were his favorite) and was sensitive to the needs of others - plus, he cooked a mean Thanksgiving turkey. David had a profound relationship with God, and he shared it with the world through his gentleness, kindness and passion for helping others. David left everyone better than he found them through his thoughtfulness and heart for service. David leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 30 years, Jean Considine (yes, she kept her maiden name - he knew about her independent streak from the moment they met and loved her for it), their daughter Bethany (they would have danced to one of their favorite Motown songs at her wedding - 'My Girl') and her fiancé Greg Noble (he prayed for a mate for Bethany but even he couldn't imagine the amazing 'bonus son' God provided) and their son Benjamin (who learned from the best to give great hugs and say 'I love you' every chance you get.) His big brothers - Tom (Susan) Francis and Rick Francis - will miss him terribly as he joins their parents in eternal life. Joe and Jean Francis raised three amazing men, though all will tell you that David was mom's favorite. Also celebrating the time they had with him are Jean's dad Paul Considine, sisters Lorrie Considine (Jeff Thomas) and Joan (Gary) Johnson and her brother Kevin (Martha) Considine. While he was Francis through and through - strong, loyal, and occasionally stubborn - he truly welcomed becoming one of the crazy Considines, learning more of the Considine cousin names than some of the cousins knew themselves! Another bonus of heaven will be seeing Jean's mom Dorothy Considine. His many nieces and nephews also added joy to his life - Michael (Ania), Kevin, Jessica and Stacy Francis, Colleen and Brendan Thomas, Erin (Rob) Walker and Chris Considine - as did his many friends and fellow faith travelers. The family will receive those touched by David's life Sunday, September 20th from 2-5pm at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 East Exchange Street, Akron, OH 44304. A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, September 21st at 10:30am at St. Mary Church in Hudson. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in David's name to 'Life is Good No Matter What,' a charity that grants 'escapes' to cancer patients and their loved ones. This amazing organization gifted Jean and David with a trip to Savannah just in time for the 30th wedding anniversary last April. Their address is 3200 West Market Street, Suite 1, Akron, OH 44333. If flowers are to be sent, please contact The Greenhouse Florist, 330-650-1366.
