Danny Hughey

Danny L Hughey, 78, went home to be with his Lord and Savior June 19, 2024 after a very brief illness. Danny was born July 25, 1945 in Elba, Ohio. He was a member of Southwest Church of Christ in Barberton, Ohio.

Dan was an electrician by trade and a member of the IBEW for 53 years. He taught in the apprenticeship program for many years and enjoyed teaching. He was a proud Army Veteran and taught for two years in the Nike Missile Systems. Perhaps that is where he first learned that he enjoyed teaching.

He enjoyed many spectator sports. Golf was probably his favorite and he was also a pretty good golfer and loved to play. He was continually trying to improve his game after all these years. If you knew Dan you know that he seldom gave up on anything. He played in leagues in Akron and Winter Haven, Florida where he and Barbara spent their winters for the past 9 years. He enjoyed the many friends he made there.

In recent years he had come to enjoy feeding the many birds that came to the feeders he hung out in the backyard every spring. He loved to watch them come and go, especially the "hummers".

Preceded in death by his beloved son Mark, his mom and dad Charles and Juanita Hughey, his in-laws Quinton and Elsie Prince, three brothers, his brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, all of whom he dearly loved.

Left to mourn and whom he dearly loved and was very proud of are his wife of 58 years Barbara, much loved son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Tara Hughey, grandsons Quinton (Sarah), Lucas (Katy Kluesener) granddaughter Olivia (Drew Ferrell) He also leaves two sisters, four sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

We already miss him more than words can express but we know he is at peace. There was no cure for the disease that took him from his life on earth so God took him home.

Friends may call at Hummel Funeral Home 3475 Copley Rd., Akron, Ohio on Friday June 28, 2024. Calling hours from 4:00-6:00 with a memorial service directly following. Nathan Robinson officiating.
