Dan Nichols

On September 8 2013 Dan T. Nichols age 72 died peacefully at home in the company of his loving family and went Home to be with the Lord. Dan recently celebrated 45 years of marriage to his beloved wife Judith (Hart) Nichols. Dan and Judy's family includes children Jennifer (Tim) Van Oss Jim (Val) Joel (Jen) John (Jody) Jeff (Brynne) Joseph Jeremiah and Joanna (Matt) Fulton and grandchildren Ashley Ryan Hannah Daniel Isaiah Elizabeth Joey Joel Jr. Rachel Andy Grace Ben Owen and one-on-the-way. Dan was a native of Galion Ohio where he grew up with his loving sister Linda (Nichols) Hathaway. Dan was an earnest and honest provider who invested his life in others without fanfare. He will be remembered as a mentor of young people a sincere and generous man who led by example. A graduate of Ohio University where he was the first to portray the Bobcat mascot Dan served 46 years as an educator. He was a principal at Woodland Elementary and Riverview Elementary in Stow-Munroe Falls and Dean of Students at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. Not one for full retirement Dan enjoyed working part-time at Lucky Shoes. Dan drew strength from his Catholic faith. He was a parishioner at St. Mary and then at St. Vincent and had a special place in his heart for Francesca Hall. He served as a Eucharistic minister lector and acolyte. In his final chapter Dan braved the indignities of brain cancer with quiet courage and with Judy by his side. His family is comforted to know that he is now reunited in Heaven with his son Joseph his granddaughter Rachel parents Russell and Sara brother-in-law Hoyt nephew Tod and parents-in-law Joseph and Barbara Hart. The family is grateful for the special care that Dan received from the physicians and staff of the McDowell Cancer Center at Akron General the staff of Hospice of VNS and the extraordinary staff of the PRN Therapy Company. Family will receive friends Thursday 3-8 p.m. at the Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St. Akron Ohio 44304. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent Catholic Church 164 W.
