Dan Blice

May 29, 1946 — May 28, 2017

Dan Thomas Blice, 70, (b. May 29, 1946) joined the love of his life, his wife Vicki, in heaven on May 28, 2017. Dan and Vicki were beloved sweethearts since junior high school. Dan was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio and spent the last 40 years as a Copley resident. Preceded in death by his parents Tom and Carrie Mae (Jackson) Blice, Dan is survived by his four children Nathan (Kathy) Blice, Emily (Phil) Engle, Betsy (Jason) Barr and Margaret (Michael) Haase, and 12 grandchildren, nieces and nephews, choir members, and friends. Dan was lovingly referred to as 'G' by his grandchildren: Hannah, Brian, Sarah, and Daniel Blice; Chelsea (Gerhard) Bezeidenhout, Evelyn, Carolyn, Madelyn Engle; Elaine and Jane Barr; Penelope and Andrew Haase. 'G' was an example of integrity, logical and critical thinking, honesty, love, and strength to his family, his legacy. Dan was very involved with the Copley Athletic Association as a parent, leader, umpire, and one of the best damn coaches that graced the league. Dan had a beautiful tenor voice and sang his whole life in one choir or another. He was always singing, even in his last days on Earth. Dan and Vicki sang in church choirs together, most recently at Bath U.C.C. Church. Dan was also a member of the Akron Symphony Chorus and was a 25 year charter member of the Summit Choral Society. Dan was a proud graduate of Youngstown State University and later earned his master's degree from the University of Akron. Dan spent his career as an industrial engineer and worked for local rubber industries and retired from HP Products. His remarkable abilities for organization, numerical thinking, and logical reasoning, combined with the highest level of integrity and honesty made Dan a truly valuable asset to all he worked with. Above all, Dan was an absolutely devoted husband and father. He showed more strength in the year following Vicki's death than ever before, he cared for his family in the most sincere way, and he was devoted to every single family member in a way that made them feel as though they were each his favorite. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, wide ranging vocabulary, cabinet full of cookies, beautifully tended gardens, wonderful singing voice, and warm smile. He was sure Vicki was waiting patiently for him in heaven and knew they would be reunited again. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 11th at 3pm at the Bath United Church of Christ in the Historic Chapel, 3980 W. Bath Rd., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
