Clare Kaufman died on August 30, 2016, after a courageous fight with cancer. Clare was born on June 22, 1933 at home near Millersburg, Ohio to the late John and Susan Schlabach Kaufman. Clare attended Goshen College. She worked in Columbus for Ohio State University for many years, retired, and moved to Akron to be closer to family 7 years ago. Clare especially enjoyed the ease of living in her condo after taking care of a house and garden for many years. She was known for her touches of kindness, her wittiness, her courage and her perseverance. Until her illness she generally got up early each morning and kept going until evening. She especially enjoyed checking in on her neighbor, Lillian. Clare was known within her family for her wonderful walnut cakes which were requested at every holiday. Her sister's family awaited her delicious assortment of cookies each Christmas. Clare will be sadly missed by her siblings and their families: Fran Gerber (Bob) of Leesburg, Indiana; Ada Enzen of Culver City, California; Sam Kaufman (Joan) of Mansfield, Ohio; and Mary Schwartz (Larry) of Fairlawn, Ohio. Her niece, Deb Barry, was especially close to Clare and assisted in her care during her illness. In addition to her parents, Clare was preceded in death by her siblings: Christ, Susan, Allen, Leo, and Alma Kaufman. Private burial will take place at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Summit Mennonite Church, 939 Norton Ave., Barberton, Ohio 44203. Family will receive friends and relatives one hour before the service.
