Claire Anderson

September 14, 1935 — September 12, 2016

Claire Yost Anderson (nee Storey) of Cuyahoga Falls passed away Sept 12, 2016. She was born Sept 14, 1935 in Homestead, Pa. to Frank Storey and Leah Storey Johnston. She was preceded in death by her parents; longtime companion, Frank Malloy; son-in-law, Capt. Carl Allen, USMC Ret, and cherished friends, Caesar, Cisco, C'beau, and Cleo. She leaves her love to daughters, Heidi Yost Allen of Mims, Fla., Daina Kristen Yost of Colorado Springs, Colo., son, Eric Yost and wife Ginger; and grandsons, Ryan and Dylan Yost of Peachtree City, Ga.; former students, friends, and Mike Malloy and family of Litchfield. Claire was a proud graduate of Brentwood H.S., Miami University, and Kent State University Graduate School concentrating in the social and biological sciences and enjoying leadership roles in student governments, athletics, music, classical piano, and social organizations. Claire was a teacher at schools in Pittsburgh, Pa. and Ravenna, Ohio. She taught Physical Education and integrated her love of music, dance, art, and gymnastics to instill her lifelong love of learning in her students. She was most proud of directing the Modern Dance and Gymnastics Shows featuring 150 Rausch Elementary students. Claire was a classy, sophisticated, beautiful lady with high intellect, a quick smile, and a wonderful sense of humor. Many friends spent many hours enjoying beers, stimulating conversation and much laughter with her and Frank. Her homes were always impeccably decorated and her clothes always perfectly color coordinated, even down to the shoelaces in her sneakers. She lived an elegant but simple lifestyle, saving her money so she could help others. She made daily trips to visit sick friends, sent lots of Get Well Cards, baked brownies for her friends at the Y, rescued her beloved greyhounds, and established a scholarship fund for Graduate Students at KSU. Her only extravagance was her beautiful Grand Piano which brought her many hours of peace and enjoyment. ~ As a student, mother, teacher, advocate, mentor and/or friend - always loyal with love, laughter, and occasional tears 'for a reason, a season, or a lifetime' ~ No services and immediate internment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens in keeping with her longtime favor for opportunity vs ceremony or tradition. Even after her death Claire will continue teaching future students by generously donating the majority of her estate to scholarships for Graduate Students at KSU. The family thanks Claire's many friends and caregivers for their care, visits, flowers, cards and thoughts and prayers. Memorial gifts may be made online to the Claire Yost Anderson Endowed Scholarship (account# 36702) at the Kent State University Foundation at www.kent.edu/advancement/give-online-now or sending a check payable to the Kent State University Foundation, 350 S Lincoln St., Kent, OH 44242 or Portage County Board of Developmental Disabilities, or Riverfront YMCA.
