Christel E. Dechiaro, 82, of Cuyahoga Falls (formerly of Kent, Ohio) went to her Heavenly home on May 9, 2014 with her family at her side. Born January 16, 1932 in Berlin, Germany to Arthur and Martha Schmude, she was the last of her generation, preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters. She was married to George Dechiaro in 1958 and as an Army wife, had many adventures in Panama, Fort Lewis, Washington and Fort Hood, Texas. George Dechiaro preceded her in death in 1984. Survivors include her only daughter, Vallie Harlan (Paul Maischaider) of Silver Lake, Ohio, grandson Derek (Wendy) Harlan of Louisville, Ohio, cousin Ruth (Helmut) Spelter of Bad Bodenteich, Germany. Christel loved the outdoors and spent many golden years camping and fishing. She was the reason her beloved grandson is the avid fisherman he is today. Her pride was in her family, her German heritage and her sobriety. She was blessed to have her furry feline companion, 'Mitsy' for many years and dearly loved her two grand-dogs, 'Hanzie' and 'Gizmo.' The family has chosen cremation and a private family memorial service. Heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at National Church Residences, Bath Road, Cuyahoga Falls. Donations in Christel's honor can be made to National Church Residences Foundation, the AA Intergroup Office or Home Group of your choice or Paws and Prayers, Animal Rescue. Rest in Peace 'Mutti' and Grandma. You will remain in our hearts always!
