Cheryl Garcia

Cheryl Ann Garcia (Malone) 54 passed away September 10, 2014 surrounded by her family at The Cleveland Clinic after a short illness. She was born August 8, 1960 in Ironton, Ohio. She was married to David Garcia (25 years) June 3, 1989. She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth Malone and Patricia Ann Alspach, and brother Kenneth Michael Malone (Julia), her cats Benny and Kitty, and her dogs Lucky, Shea and Sweetie. She is survived by her husband David Garcia, and sister Penny Jo Dodgion (Stephon) of Ironton, OH, her nephews Isaiah, Eric, Kevin, and niece Kendall. Cheryl graduated from The University of Akron with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Juris Doctor from The University of Akron School of Law. Cheryl had also recently retired from The University of Akron where she worked since 1985. Cheryl had many loves from reading (both books and her kindle) and traveling, to owning pets and dog-sitting for her friends. Cheryl also loved attending Akron Zips football and soccer games. You could always find Cheryl with her husband David at InfoCision Stadium for The Akron Zips home football games up to 4 hours prior to kick off tailgating in Lot 9. She was also very civic minded and always volunteered during elections to help voters get to their polling locations. Cheryl was a strong woman who was always thinking of others and was always there for her family & friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, where remembrances will be shared at that time.
