Charles Edward March, Sr., “Charlie, Eddie” passed away on Thurs, Sept 17, 2020 after a strong and long-term battle with chronic health conditions. Charles was born on July 25, 1953 in Lanark, WV and lived in both the Beckley, WV and Akron, OH areas. He was a proud 1972 graduate of Akron Garfield High School, where he was a true standout athlete in football and wrestling. He worked as a coal miner and in construction. Charles was preceded in death by his loving parents, Nina Eva (Woicehovich) March in 2013 and Edward March in 2005, and by his biological father, Andrew Garcia Miramontez, in 1954, his former in-laws Melvin and Mary ("Kathleen") Avancini, both in 2015, and his former wife, Joan (Rich) Montgomery in 2010. He is survived by his children Kristian Montgomery of Akron, OH, Charles, Jr of Beckley, WV, and Eva Jo Scarbro (Aaron) of Beckley, WV; his grandchildren Charles III, Joel, and Laynie March, and Tyler and Kathleen Scarbro; his siblings Edward P. March (Leslie) of Cape Coral, FL, Linda Malachin (Mark) of Hartville, OH, Nina Biscan (Dean) of Green, OH, Sharon Wilczynski (John) of Carmel, IN, Michelle Kelling (Joe) of Sheffield Village, OH, and Lorri March of Grand Haven, MI; his many nieces and nephews lucky enough to have had him as their Uncle Charlie; his special baby sis, Mimi, and many very special and loving cousins and friends; his former wife, Debbie Avancini March, and members of her family. Loving members of Charles' Miramontez family of Lubbock, TX also survive and grieve his passing. Charles was known for his love of life and for his very real and plentiful love of his immediate family, extended family, and his many friends. He always had a big bear hug and a ridiculous joke at the ready and simply had an indescribable charisma that allowed all who met him to love him and feel as though he was their very own "Uncle Charlie" or "brother". Among his joys were "happy tears" reunions with family and friends, sports (especially football and specifically West Virginia University, The Ohio State University, and Cleveland Browns football), actor John Wayne and western movies and TV shows, being a "Park Rat" of Akron, OH's Firestone Park area, being an "almost heaven" West Virginian, silly (sometimes "colorful") jokes, denim overalls, and a sip of moonshine here and there. A service and memorial luncheon will be held on Sat, Sept 26, 2020 beginning at 11 AM at South Akron Knights of Columbus Hall at 2055 Glenmount Ave, Akron. Masks and social distancing required. Private interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, E Waterloo Rd, Akron, OH. For those who wish, Charles' family suggests memorial contributions to any of the following: The American Diabetes Association, The American Kidney Fund, or the Akron Garfield High School Golden Rams Football Program (for contributions to Garfield Football, make check payable to Akron Public Schools, specify "Garfield Football - In Memory of Charles March" in the memo line, and mail to: Akron Public Schools, 10 N Main St, Akron, OH 44308).
