Charles Crimaldi

May 17, 1924 — July 4, 2014

Charles Crimaldi, 90, of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully July 4th, surrounded by his family. Charles was born in Aultman, Ohio, where he attended Greentown High School. Following his graduation, he was hired by Goodyear, where he worked for 45 years. Charles was drafted into the Navy shortly after he was hired by Goodyear, and served two years in the Sea Bees during World War II. Most of his enlistment was spent in the Mariana Islands, in the Pacific Theatre. He married Theresa Barbuzza on June 9th of 1951, and was very active in his children's and grandchildren's lives. Charles was also a basketball coach for his surviving daughter and son. He enjoyed sports throughout his life and bowled twice a week until he was 89. Throughout his retirement, Charles found joy and fulfillment with his grandchildren, and taught them countless life lessons. Charles was preceded in death by children Marianne and Charlie, mother and father Teresa and Samuel, brothers Michael, Joseph, Thomas, and Angelo, and by sisters Mary Hayden, Ann Lloyd, and Rose McCullough. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Theresa Crimaldi, two children, Julianne Houck and Jeff Crimaldi, six grandchildren, Jason Houck, Samantha Houck, Cory Crimaldi, Seth Houck, Leah Allison, and Annie Edwardson, and two great grandchildren, Adaline and Coraline Churchwell . Charles lived a full life of love, servitude, and compassion, and led his family by example. He was liked by all, as he shared his humor, kindness, and generosity. In his younger years, he especially enjoyed leading sing-a-longs with family and friends as he played the guitar or harmonica. Charles was a great teacher, and his lessons will stick with his family until they, too, are called home. We know that you're sitting with Jesus, whistling, and telling cheesy jokes, and it brings us comfort. You've touched our lives in ways that no one else could, and for that we are forever grateful. Your memory will be carried with us for the rest of our lives; Dad, Nonnu, and Chick, we love you. Friends may call on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 4-6 pm at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E Exchange St. Akron, where the members of the Sons of Italy #685 will meet at 5:00 p.m. for their ritual. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 am at St. Mathew Catholic Church with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers please support the following charities--Wounded Warriors, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or St Jude.
