Catherine Jessie

Catherine S. Jessie, born in Akron and a long-time resident of Goodyear Heights, died on July 20, 2015. She retired from teaching in 1981 after spending her last 21 years at Annunciation Grade School. She was a member of Visitation of Mary (Annunciation) Catholic Church, St. Ann's Ladies Guild, the Altar & Rosary Society and was a charter member of the St. Monica's Study Group. Preceded in death by her parents (Steven and Carmela Savino); her loving husband, Chet; beloved son, Dr. Steven and dear grandson, Scott. She is survived by son, Frank (Jill Gardner); daughter, Marisue (Jeff) Murphy; grandchildren Max (Katy Eyman) Markovich, Katie Markovich, Katie and Ryan Murphy, daughter-in-law Karen (Brian) Becker, cousin Fr. Ralph Coletta and many loving relatives and friends. Mrs. Jessie, an avid reader, also enjoyed music, traveling, playing cards and closely following her favorite sports teams. She was also years ahead of her time by coaching youth sports teams, both boys and girls, as early as the 1950s. Friends will be received between 4:00-7:00 on Thursday, July 23rd at Hummel Funeral Home (500 E. Exchange St., Akron, OH 44304). Mass of Christian Burial will occur at 10:00 am on Friday, July 24, at Visitation of Mary (Annunciation) Catholic Church (87 Broad St., Akron) and burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
