Carolyn Collins (nee Fontana), 73 of Fairlawn, peacefully joined her recently departed and devoted husband, Ray, on November 26, having courageously battled stage-four lung cancer for sixteen years. Born in Mt. Hope, WV, Carolyn moved to Akron in 1959 and remained in the Akron area, retiring from B.F. Goodrich. She is survived by a sister, Linda (Tony) Bernabei; daughter, Teresa (Bob) Straight; sons, Timothy, Thomas and Mark (Angela); grandchildren, Lyndsey (Jim) Kruzer, Kyle (Kristen) Straight, Joshua (Brittany) and Joseph (Katie Magnacca) Collins; great grandchildren, Sophia, James and Julia Kruzer; nieces and nephews. She was cherished by her family, who remained by her bedside, around-the-clock, both at home and during her hospice stay; and by a host of loyal and loving friends, who remember her kindness, generosity and wise counsel. She fulfilled a burning desire to learn about the world by being an avid reader-generously contributing hundreds of books over the years to the public library. Her greatest passion was her love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Throughout her long years of treatment, Carolyn never lost her sense of humor or her love of life. Rather, she embraced every moment of life with grace and dignity. She will be sorely missed, but lives on in the hearts of those she touched through her unique understanding, warmth and goodness. At her request, she has been cremated. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 12:00 pm Tuesday at the Copley United Methodist Church,1518 S Cleveland Massillon Rd, Akron, OH 44321, where friends will be received one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name, may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Hospice Care Center 3358 Ridgewood Rd. Akron, Ohio 44333.
