Carol "Sue" Hanna
Sue Hanna, 79, loving educator, friend, aunt, cousin, "Grandma" and dog mom, found peace on December 19, 2021 after a courageous battle with dementia.
Sue was born on October 16, 1942 in Burbank, Ohio and resided in the Akron area most of her life. She was a 1960 graduate of Norwayne High School, went on to receive a bachelor's in education from Ashland College and a masters degree in education from the University of Akron. Sue was a passionate teacher at Hatton Elementary for 35 years. She retired in 1999 and went back to work as a Title One Tutor for 8 more years. She was beloved by all her students and anyone else who was lucky to know her. Sue was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota, a professional organization for educators, serving as a Chapter President as well as being a past State President.
Sue was "mommy" to many four legged fur children over the years, with a particular fondness for dachshunds. She also loved and collected Peanuts memorabilia. Sue was an avid crafter and enjoyed traveling with the ladies of Kappa.
Sue was preceded in death by her father, Harry Hanna, mother, Madge (Bowman) Hanna, brother, Charles Hanna and sister, Catherine (Hanna) Flynt. She is survived by her brother, Dan Hanna, brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Phyllis Hanna, sister-in-law, Joann Hanna, half-sister, Rebecca Hanna, niece, Jennifer (Matt, Aubrey and Kendall) Fox, nephew, Nathan (Joannie) Flynt, close friends, Marge and Tim Ondack, adopted grandchildren, Jackie, Emma, Mary Margaret and Rex Ondack, fur babies, Harry and Sweet Pea, as well as numerous family members and countless friends.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Sue's life on Wednesday, December 29th from 2 to 4 at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 East Exchange St. Akron, OH, 44304. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the Summit County Humane Society, Dementia Research or Helping Hands of Summit County Inc. We wish to express our sincere appreciation to Sue's doctors, the staff of The Gables of Green and Crossroads Hospice for their warm and loving care.
