After 99 wonderful years and countless lives touched along the way, Carmella Aloi Angeletti of Akron passed away peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Carmella was born on November 9, 1914 in Beaver, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Rose Aloi. Always ahead of her time, she was the first family member to attend college and to work outside the home. Her career began with Gallup Market Research, followed by 15 years as bookkeeper for Eddie Iacomini at his West Exchange Restaurant. She was wed to her soul mate, Ross, in 1938, and after more than 75 years together, their love never faded and served as an inspiration to others. Extremely active in the Akron community and devoted Charter Member of her Church, Carmella spent countless hours volunteering. St. Thomas Hospital Board, St. Sebastian's Sanctuary Society, Summit County Juvenile Court Board, East Akron Community House Board and Catholic Daughters of America, as well as several other organizations, all of whom benefited from her membership, participation and leadership. Carmella was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Genevieve Greco and Catherine Ostrov; her brothers, Sam Aloi and Carmen Aloi; and her grandson, Ross Horvath. She is survived by her loving husband; daughters, Carol Horvath of Henderson, Nevada and Patty Palmer (John) of Akron; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several surrogate children who lovingly called her Nani. The name 'Angeletti'means 'descendant of an angel'. Our beloved Carmella embodied that definition during the time she graced the earth. Now, with celebration and appreciation, we send our sweet angel home. The family would like to thank the kindness and compassion showed by the staff at The Merriman, Harbor Light Hospice and the support of many friends during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Sebastian's Little Flower Garden Club for church plantings. Calling hours will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, February 27 at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 28, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 476 Mull Ave. Akron. Private interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.
