Carmela Essig

March 20, 1921 — October 3, 2014

Carmela Grace Essig (nee Lazzaro) March 20, 1921 - October 3, 2014 Carmela (Mel), as most of her family and friends called her, passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on October 3, 2014 at Akron General Medical Center at the age of 93.....(39 as she would say). Carmela was a lifelong resident of the Copley/Bath area. She was blessed to be married to the love of her life, Wally, for 71 years. They worked together their entire lives in several endeavors including radio and electronics, upholstery, arts and crafts, and commercial sewing. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Frank Lazzaro (brother) VFW post 218, and also a second generation member of the San Leone Society and very proud of her Italian heritage. She very willingly gave her service to her country building barrage balloons during World War II. She loved to play music with her husband, and with only a little coaxing, would play piano, organ, and accordion for everyone's enjoyment. She cooked for anybody and everybody, and was the happiest with her family gathered closely around her. Carmela is survived by her husband, Wallace, her two daughters Linda (Bob) Beckett, Rosemary (Dan) Koch, two grandchildren Kelly (Danny) McPherson, Bobby (Kayla) Beckett, four great grandchildren Hailey, Ayden, Aubriana, and Bobby Jr., sister Nancy (Maurice) Hohman her brother-in-law Bob Lozier, and many loving nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 on Monday, October 6th at Hummel Funeral Home, (Copley Chapel) located at 3475 Copley Rd. Copley, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be performed at St Hillary's Catholic Church 2750 W. Market St. Fairlawn, OH. 44333 at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 7th.
