Bruce Alves

Bruce W. Alves, 81 years old, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024. Bruce is preceded in death by his parents, Robert (Bob) and Elizabeth Alves and his son Scott Alves. He is survived by his wife of 22 years Beth, daughter Jean (Josh) Curran, ex-wife and dear friend Barrie Alves, stepdaughter Caitlin Summers, brother-in-law John (Michelle) Paolella, grandson Alex Alves, dogs Cassidy and Tito, cats Emmy Lou and Ruby Sue and grand dog Mona.

Bruce was born and raised in Euclid OH. He joined the Air Force after graduating from Euclid High School in 1961. After basic training, he was stationed as an Air Policeman in Grünstadt Germany for several years and honorably discharged in 1965. Bruce eventually retired from Cleveland Clinic in 2009 after 31 years of service. Bruce loved animals and was always willing to open his heart and home to any cat or dog that needed a loving family. He especially enjoyed bluegrass and folk music, reading, road trips, maps, Civil War history, feeding the birds/squirrels and Hawaiian shirts. He was a wealth of information on a variety of subjects. He loved craft beer, visiting breweries all over Ohio/neighboring states and a good single malt scotch. He was extremely proud of his Scottish heritage. Most of all, he loved his daughter Jean...

He was a very kind and loving individual with an amazing sense of humor - he really enjoyed making people laugh. He never passed by a lemonade stand without stopping. He hated crowds and a good time for him was always one simply spent with close friends and family.

Bruce's family would like to thank the staff at Heather Knoll Nursing and Rehab Center and his nurse Jeff from Wellspring Hospice for the kind and compassionate care that he has received.

Cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest at the Ohio Western Reservice National Cemetery later this year. The family requests that any memorials be made to the local animal shelter or rescue of your choice - please adopt, don't shop.
