Barbara Amer Walter January 20, 1931 Barbara Amer Walter, 84, passed away November 11, 2015, at St. Joseph Village in Chicago. Barbara was born in Akron, Ohio to AJ and Helen Amer. She was a past officer of the Junior League of Akron, St. Thomas Hospital Women's Board, and St. Vincent Altar Society. She was a member of the St. Vincent High School class of 1949, and attended Ursuline College and the University of Akron. Barbara was a top Realtor with Marting Realty, and a founding member of the Smythe Cramer Realty team in Summit County, where she was recognized for excellence with the Ohio Association of Realtor's Presidents Sales Club Award. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband James E. Walter, two infant daughters, brother Thomas Amer, and sisters Helen Seib and Mary Jo Brownfield. She is survived by her children Anne (David) Mitchell, James (Mark Lodini) Walter, Peggy (Doug Houck) Walter, and Hugh (Nancy) Walter; grandchildren Joe and Andy Herdina, Grace Eickhoff, William and Sarah Houck, and Beatrix Walter; her brothers Al and Lou Amer, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Her family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all of the staff at St. Joseph's for their loving care and support during the final years of her illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 9:30 AM at St. Vincent Catholic Church, Market St. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, on Monday from 4-7 PM.
