Athena Constantine 74 years of Richfield passed away suddenly on Tuesday December 21 2004 while having dinner with her family. She was a life resident of the Akron area and a graduate of Buchtel High School. She and her husband John founded Constantine Nursery and Garden Center in 1955 and were still active in the business. They were looking forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of the company together on March 15 2005. John and John Jr. will miss the important role that she played as they carry on in business without her. Athena was an exceptional talent in golf. She was a member of The Thursday Ladies Golf Association at Fairlawn Country Club and the Womens Akron District Golf Association. Her enthusiasm ability and competitiveness made her one of Fairlawns finest Lady Golfers. Athena had many accomplishments golfing highlighted by a hole in one a 21 handicap and a life low score of 79 yet her greatest accomplishments in golf came after the loss of both her legs. She was the recipient of both The Presidents Award and the Chairwomans Award. Athena achieved an incredible score of 86 in the 2004 FCC Emblem Tournament. Athenas passion for life and the game of golf will always be an inspiration to all who knew her both on and off the course. Survived be her husband of 53 years John son and daughter-in-law John Jr. and Cindy of Richfield grandchildren Jason Allie and Ari brother Mark Zaharopoulos sister Mary Colombes and many loving nieces and nephews.
