Ann Perry passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2014 surrounded by her family. Born on March 14, 1915, Ann was a lifelong resident of Akron and the matriarch of a large, loving Italian family. Her favorite saying was, 'My family is my life!' Her example of strong faith and values, hard work, sacrifice, and generosity towards others influenced each generation of her family. Her cooking was one of the ways that she shared her love for her family and friends. Ann's eggplant parmesan was always a big hit at the Jack Sommer Golf Tournament (orignated by her son, Tony). Her homemade bread and banana oatmeal cookies were also mainstays at family reunions, weddings and other celebrations. Her smile was infectious and her ability to love everyone unconditionally will be remembered by all who knew her. Ann was preceded in death by her parents: Nunziata and Biagio Scafiti, husband: Louis Perry, son and daughter-in-law: Tony and Jeannette Perry, sisters: Josephine Rogers, Sonti Basone, and Vivian Lanza, and grandsons: Anthony Perry and Joseph Firtha. Ann is survived by her children: Nancy (Mike) Firtha, Louis (Joan) Perry, Ann Louise (Joe) Nemcok, and Dolly (Bernie) Shocklee; sister: Nancy Vaccaro, 20 grandchildren, as well as 66 great and great-great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Church, 750 South Main St., Akron on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling Hours will be on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 East Exchange St., Akron, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Visiting Nurse 3358 Ridgewood Rd.
