Andrew Samuelson

Andrew John Samuelson native of Cambridge Massachusetts passed away June 12 2010. John was a graduate of Cambridge Latin High School Boston College and the MIT Executive Institute. Preceding John in his death was his wife Rita (McAlonan) his parents Margaret (Shannon) and Peter Samuelson; brothers Francis and Alfred. John is survived by his sister Eileen (Carr); daughter Anne Hogan (husband Philip) and grandsons Andrew and Patrick of Burlington NC; son Andrew Jr. (wife Shelley) and grandsons Andrew III and Ian of Akron Ohio; son James (wife Patricia) and grandchildren Gunnar Heddie and Adelle of Columbus Ohio. John was a veteran of WWII achieving the rank of Sergeant and fought in Iwo Jima Battle; he was recognized with a Presidential Letter of Commendation for exemplary heroism. Following his days in the service and education John joined Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and later Firestone Canada. He traveled extensively throughout the world and later retired from Smithers Scientific Services in Akron Ohio. A devoted husband father and grandfather John enjoyed vacations with family at Cape Cod and playing golf. A private family graveside service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday June 28 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Hilary Church 2750 West Market Street. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation 120 Wall Street 19th Floor New York NY 10005; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis TN 38105.
