Alice McGrath a Cuyahoga Falls Resident died November 29 2012 after a long illness. She was 70 years old. The ninth of twelve children of Paul and Leah Grissom. She was born in Hudson Ohio on the family dairy farm on Sept. 21 1942. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1960 and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Kent State University. She worked at the Summit County Welfare Dept. now known as Jobs and Family Services of Summit County. She also worked at United Services for the Handicapped now known as United Disability Services in Akron. She volunteered at the Cuyahoga Falls YMCA St Joseph's Church Quilters Group the Bethany Church of Christ Quilters and Catholic Social Services (now called Catholic Charities and Community Services of Summit County). It was here that she made all the baked goods for the homeless noon meal every Wednesday. She did this for nine years. She was an associate member of the Catholic Social Services Women's Board and their Sewing Ladies Group. Alice was an avid reader bridge player quilter and gardener. She loved to travel and hardly ever passed up an Antique Mall or shop along the way. She was an enthusiastic sports fan with baseball and the Indians being her favorite. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Leah Grissom and her sister Sue Grissom Thomas. She is survived by her husband Patrick McGrath son Jared McGrath of Akron sisters Ann Clewell Jean Richter Sandy Skinner Marjie (John) Origlio and Debby Grissom. Brothers John (Helen) Grissom Jim (Elaine) Grissom Don (Marilyn) Grissom Jack (Nancee) Grissom and Jerry (Peggy) Grissom. Sisters in-law Marti Bireley Barbara (Martin) Breheny and brothers in-law Joseph (Monique) McGrath and George Thomas as well as 47 nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday December 4 2012 at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St Akron. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 4-7 PM. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in her honor can be made to Catholic Charities and Community Services of Summit County Women's Board or the Humane Society of Greater Akron.
