Alberta R. Hensley 86 died Saturday May 12 2012 at Rockynol Retirement Community. She was born in Beech Grove Indiana to the late Cassel and Mollie Hensley. Her early years were spent in Indiana working for the Rural Electric Cooperative and then at Marian College in Indianapolis where she served as director of Alumni Association. In 1974 she came to The University of Akron at the request of the late President Dominic Guzzetta to be Director of Special Events a position which garnered her a host of friends and acquaintances at the University and in the community. Alberta always looked for opportunities to generate goodwill for the University. She was a member of the UA Women's Committee and devoted countless hours on other committees including: the Commission on Institutional Planning and Development Subcommittee on University Mission and Goals; the Commission's Information Development Advisory Committee; the University's Outreach Council; Homecoming Committee; Commencement Committee; the Campus United Way Committee; the UA Family Campaign Leadership Committee; as well as numerous committees relating to the production of special University events. After her retirement as director emeritus of special projects in 1989 she served in public relations for the Akron Roundtable for 15 years. She was also an avid volunteer for Victim Assistance The Newman Foundation Western Reserve Girl Scout Council the Women's Network and St. Sebastian's Church to name a few. In addition she was largely instrumental in creating the Akron University Association of Retirees and was a long-time member of Friends of Hower House and Hilltoppers/Buchtelles. She is survived by loving cousins and their families. In Indiana: Bill and Irene Fritz their son Mike (Stacy) and grandchildren Alyssa Aaron and Alaina; Charles and Anita Fritz their children Fred and Susan (Kevin) and grandchildren Matthew and Elizabeth. In Atlanta GA: Harold and Delores Fritz their children Larry (Carol) and David (Angie) and grandchildren Evan Blain Nathan and Wyatt. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:30 AM on Wednesday May 16 2012 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church 476 Mull Ave Akron. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery Indianapolis next to her beloved parents. A Mass will also take place at a later date at St. Barnabas Church Indianapolis.
