Sister Nancy Crane the former Sr. M. deMontfort 79 died on Tuesday February 28 2012 at Our Lady of the Elms Convent Akron. She was the only child of Edwin and Blanche Crane born on December 17 1932 in Akron Ohio. She entered the Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron now Dominican Sisters of Peace from St. Sebastian Parish on December 8 1952 and made first profession of vows on August 4 1954. Sister Nancy graduated of St. Vincent High School in 1950 received AB from St. Mary of the Springs (Ohio Dominican) Columbus OH in 1956 her MTS from The Catholic University of America Washington DC in 1963 and CPE from St. Joseph Hospital Tacoma WA in 1978. Her teaching career was mainly at the high school level at Our Lady of the Elms in Akron and Lake Catholic in Mentor where she taught biology physics and chemistry from 1956-75. In 1979 she became certified in CPE at St. Joseph Hospital Tacoma WA and later ministered at Orleans Parish Prison New Orleans LA. From 1979-90 she worked in prison chaplain ministry for Maricopa County Jail in Phoenix AZ. From 1990-92 Sister Nancy served in Las Casas Ministry with the Cheyenne and Arapahoe Indians in Canon OK. In 1993 she worked with the Damien Ministries in Washington DC. Sister Nancy served as a chaplain St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center in Alexandria LA and St. Edward Medical Center Fort Smith AR. She returned to the Elms in 2002. She is survived by several cousins. Visitation will take place at Our Lady of the Elms Convent 1230 W. Market St. Akron on Thursday March 1 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. with a Wake Service at 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday March 2 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
