Marion Schultz 93 of Norton passed away peacefully Tuesday February 7 2012 at his home after a very long and arduous illness. Marion was born in Akron to the late Joseph and Mary Schultz but spent his childhood in California. After relocating back to Akron he attended Central High School where he was an excellent basketball player and swimmer. Marion later graduated from Howard Trade School where he learned carpentry. He worked for Brown and Graves Lumber for several years before he became an employee at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company where he retired after 40 years of service. During his time at Firestone Marion often did carpentry remodeling work for others to help support his family. By doing this he put his 8 children through parochial grade school and high school. Marion was a man of few words and known to be very humble. He spoke through his actions acting as a role model to his family and many others. Marion lived his life the way Christ wanted him to; he was patient kind devoted to his family and never had a harsh word for anyone. He was dedicated to serving the Church which even including building the altar and nativity scene for St. Peter's Parish. Marion was also known for being an artisan with wood; a 'master carpenter.' He built his family's house with his own two hands but more importantly he made it a home with his loving heart. He was a devoted husband for 61 years to Catherine 'Toots' who always teased him mercifully about playing golf 7 days a week after he retired. Marion would respond with 'I only play 5 days a week and just practice Saturday and Sunday!' His true passion was golf. Marion was a member of Firestone Country Club for many years where he and his son enjoyed many days of golf and were both 'club champions.' He passed on this passion throughout his family and friends and it will live on through the Schultz' family and friends golf tournament at Loyal Oak Golf Course. This is where Marion spent his last years hitting and shagging golf balls. Marion and Toots enjoyed family trips to various places such as Cedar Point Cook's Forest Nags Head NC and golf trips to Pinehurst NC. He also enjoyed playing cards at all the family functions. Marion was a hard working husband father grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed by many especially for his loving and gentle ways. Marion is preceded in death by his wife parents and daughter Carol. He is survived by his children; Dolores (John) Paparella Marilyn (Dave) Lang Barbara (Charlie) Shook Richard JoAnn Donald (Beth) Catherine (Doug) Calvert and son-in-law Tom Peddle; grandchildren Anthony John Jr. Michael Catherine Julie Jennifer Kristie David Katie Kevin Michael Marianne Joel Nicholas Daniel Patrick Brian William Katie Rachel and Brian; great grandchildren Vincent Daniel Maria Marina Vita-Dee Tyler Ethan Noah Frances Naomi Lucy Rose Ethan Addison and Landon; close nephew Jerry Hinzman; sisters-in-law Mildred Brunner Mary Burchett and June Hippley and numerous nieces and nephews.
